National Shadowing Month

FEBRUARY IS NATIONAL JOB SHADOWING MONTH!!

Job shadowing is a career development tool that allows students to “go behind the scenes with working professionals” while they are on the job and get first-hand information about careers. SCVCS would like to encourage its students to participate in “virtual” job shadowing during National Job Shadowing Month by exploring careers using MicroCareerBurst Learning Videos at https://sccis.intocareers.org.This website offers many ways for students to learn about careers.

To participate in shadowing using SCOIS:

**Go to the SCOIS link: https://sccis.intocareers.org

**Enter your User Name and Password. (This is your Suns Number or State ID, found on your transcript. If you do not have this number, contact your Advisor to get it.)

**Click on MicroCareerBurst.

**Click on the Course Catalog to view available MicroCareerBursts.

**Choose a MicroCareerBurst (career) of interest and click Enroll.

**Click on My Account to access the MicroCareerBurst you enrolled in and complete it.

**Complete the MicroCareerBurst Survey online to complete the experience.

SCOIS offers many opportunities for students to explore careers. Go to the website and explore.

It is packed full of excited information and everything is all FREE!

Students may choose to participate in a face-to-face shadowing experience (an experience where the student plans and actually goes to the employee’s place of business to learn about a career). Face-to-face shadowing experiences will require that the student spend a half day or more with the employee, learning about job duties, training and education required, work hours and days, use of high school subjects studied in the job, etc. If you are interested in participating in a face-to-face job shadowing experience, contact your advisor by kmail and plan to attend the Guidance Help Session for your grade level the week of February 11 through 14 at 12 noon, for procedures and guidelines.

Students who participate in face-to-face shadowing experiences must complete and submit a “Job Shadowing Survey,” signed by both the employee shadowed and their parent, to their advisor by 9 a.m. on or before March 1st.

Awards for shadowing participation:

Each time, during the month of February, that a student participates in a job shadowing experience, his/her name will be placed in a pool of participants. Ten (10) names will be randomly drawn from the pool to receive a $10 gift certificate to Walmart. A grand prize will be awarded to the 11th name drawn from the pool. Winners will be notified by kmail.
